(comment by u/Cold-Information-497)PublisherReddit r/salesforceSource typecandidate report on Reddit This post covers Salesforce; for every other company, read the forward deployed engineer interview guide.

We found no Salesforce page that lists the FDE rounds, so below is each candidate report with who said it and when, then exactly what to practice for each part.

What this post rests on

Everything below about the rounds comes from a handful of posters on Reddit and Blind, each labeled with the date and the role they named, and none of it is confirmed by Salesforce. Where a poster named the role only through a thread’s title, we say so. The practice answers are our method, not what Salesforce’s interviewers use.

What Salesforce publishes about the FDE role and its hiring

Start with what the employer itself says, because it is the only part that is not hearsay.

The role. As of September 2026, the US Mid/Senior FDE posting asks for fluency in at least one of Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java or Apex, and hands-on experience with LLMs and prompt engineering. Source 1Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) (Mid/Senior Level)PublisherSalesforce (Workday careers site)Source typecompany job posting One line in it is a ready-made interview question: “You can explain why a prompt failed and what you’d change.” Source 1Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) (Mid/Senior Level)PublisherSalesforce (Workday careers site)Source typecompany job posting The posting also says FDEs work alongside a and use AI tools including Cursor, Claude and Salesforce’s Vibes. The team shape. As of September 2026, the Agentforce Orchestration posting places the FDE in a pod with a Deployment Strategist and Specialized AI Engineers, and lists and agent-to-agent protocols among the work. Source 7Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) — Agentforce OrchestrationPublisherSalesforce (Workday careers site)Source typecompany job posting If the business-side partner is new to you, our post on the deployment strategist explains how the two jobs split.

The hiring process, company-wide. These points come from Salesforce’s How We Hire page and apply to every role, not only FDE:

  • Most interviews take place over Google Meet, and candidates are expected to be on camera. Source 8How We Hire at SalesforcePublisherSalesforce CareersSource typecompany hiring page
  • An on-site interview at a Salesforce office is required before an offer. Source 8How We Hire at SalesforcePublisherSalesforce CareersSource typecompany hiring page
  • Hiring teams may ask behavioral, competency-based or situational questions. Source 8How We Hire at SalesforcePublisherSalesforce CareersSource typecompany hiring page

This post stays on the interview, not on pay or the full list of Salesforce postings.

What candidates report, round by round

Put the reports in order and a rough shape appears. Treat it as one possible loop, not the loop.

  1. Online test, then a hiring manager. A poster who had applied for the Agentforce FDE role wrote in December 2025 that the first two rounds were a HackerRank online assessment and a round with a Salesforce hiring manager, and that both were straightforward, with only basic questions, and asked what to expect from the “Technical & Behavioral Interview” round still to come. Source 3Agentforce Forward Deployed Engineer Interview (post by u/Helpful-Regret-1550)PublisherReddit r/SalesforceCareersSource typecandidate report on Reddit A Blind poster wrote the same month that they had cleared a HackerRank round for a Salesforce FDE role and had a 1-hour interview next. Source 4Salesforce FDE tech interviewPublisherBlind (teamblind.com)Source typecandidate report on Blind
  2. A first round on AI experience. In a Blind thread about the Salesforce FDE interview, one commenter, who did not name the company or role, wrote in September 2025 that their first round “was more about experience in AI, challenges in AI projects” and that “its more consulting role than technical”. Source 9Salesforce Forward Deployed Engineer interviewPublisherBlind (teamblind.com)Source typecandidate report on Blind
  3. Technical rounds. One candidate for the Agentforce Product FDE role reported, in May 2026, that the interview focused on integrations, Apex and LWCs. Source 9Salesforce Forward Deployed Engineer interviewPublisherBlind (teamblind.com)Source typecandidate report on Blind
  4. Final round. One commenter, in a Reddit thread about the Agentforce FDE final round, wrote in December 2025 that their last interview for that position “was around AI and Agentforce”; they later said they got the job. Source 5Agentforce Forward Deployed Engineer – Final Technical & Behavioral Interview Round? Note what these reports cannot tell you: how many rounds you will get, how long the process takes, or how each round is scored. Salesforce does not publish them, and none of the reports gives them.

The online assessment: code, SQL, AI questions and a customer email

The most detailed account is on Reddit. One commenter reported, in August 2026, in a thread titled “Forward Deployed Engineer (Agentforce)”, that they cleared an assessment with a simple string-concatenation coding task, basic SQL, multiple-choice AI questions, and a task to write an email to a customer with unrealistic demands about shipping an AI system within a week. Source 12Forward Deployed Engineer (Agentforce) (comment by u/joemons)PublisherReddit r/SalesforceCareersSource typecandidate report on Reddit That is four small skills, and you can practice each one tonight.

The coding task

“Simple” tasks are lost on edge cases, not algorithms. Here is a practice task of our own: build a display name from a first, middle and last name, any of which may be missing or blank.

def full_name(first, middle, last):
    parts = [p.strip() for p in (first, middle, last)
             if p and p.strip()]
    return " ".join(parts)

Before you submit, say or test the cases out loud: a missing middle name, a name that is only spaces, stray spaces around a name, and every part empty. If the test lets you pick Apex, the same idea uses String.isNotBlank() and String.join():

List<String> parts = new List<String>();
for (String p : new List<String>{first, middle, last}) {
    if (String.isNotBlank(p)) parts.add(p.trim());
}
return String.join(parts, ' ');

The SQL

“Basic SQL” still has one classic trap: a filter that silently turns a LEFT JOIN into an inner join. Say you need every account with its count of open cases, including accounts with none.

SELECT a.name, COUNT(c.id) AS open_cases
FROM accounts a
LEFT JOIN cases c
  ON c.account_id = a.id
 AND c.status = 'Open'
GROUP BY a.id, a.name;

Put the status filter in WHERE instead and the accounts with no open cases vanish from the result. Count c.id, not *, or an account with no cases shows a count of 1. The same trap in reverse, a join that inflates totals, is the join fan-out question.

The multiple-choice AI questions

That one commenter described them only as questions “about AI in general”. Source 12Forward Deployed Engineer (Agentforce) (comment by u/joemons)PublisherReddit r/SalesforceCareersSource typecandidate report on Reddit So cover the vocabulary: what an is, what (RAG) adds, why a model hallucinates, what a context window limits, and what temperature changes.

Try three practice questions of our own, in that one-correct-answer format:

  1. Raising the temperature setting mainly changes: (a) the context window, (b) how random the token sampling is, (c) the training data. Answer: b.
  2. A RAG bot quotes last year’s refund policy. What do you check first? (a) Fine-tune the model, (b) whether the new policy is indexed and retrieved, (c) raise the temperature. Answer: b.
  3. An embedding is: (a) a compressed copy of the text, (b) a vector where similar meanings sit close together, (c) a prompt template. Answer: b.

The customer email

Don’t treat this as the easy part: it is the most FDE-like task in the test. Here is a draft for a fictional customer who wants an AI support live in a week:

Hi Dana,

Thanks for the push on timing. I share the goal of getting value from agents fast. A full agent across every support queue in a week isn’t something I can ship safely: we need your case data connected, a set of real questions to test against, and your team’s sign-off on what the agent may do alone.

Here is what I can do by Friday: a working agent for password resets only, tested on last month’s cases, running beside your team so they can check every answer.

If that goes well, we add the next queue the week after. Can we meet Thursday to agree the test set?

It does three things: it agrees with the goal, it says no to the scope with a reason the customer cares about, and it offers a smaller thing with a date. Practice it with the customer email question, and read writing for customers for the structure.

For the other formats FDE online tests take at other companies, see our post on FDE online assessments.

The technical rounds: platform integration or AI?

The two kinds of report pull in different directions, so rehearse both.

If it is the platform

One candidate reported, in May 2026, that the Agentforce Product FDE interview focused on integrations, Apex and Lightning Web Components. Source 2Agentforce -Product Forward Deployed Engineer - Interview Process (comment by u/Agile_Bad5722)PublisherReddit r/SalesforceCareersSource typecandidate report on Reddit Here are practice prompts of that kind, with the core of a good answer:

  • “Orders in the customer’s ERP must appear in Salesforce. How?” Ask first: direction, volume, freshness.
    • Inbound: REST API, or Bulk API for large loads; upsert on an external ID so retries never duplicate.
    • Outbound events: Platform Events or Change Data Capture.
    • Callouts: credentials in a Named Credential, never in code.
  • “Why does my callout from this trigger fail?” A trigger cannot make a synchronous callout. Move it to a Queueable that implements Database.AllowsCallouts, or an @future(callout=true) method. Also, a callout after uncommitted DML in the same transaction fails.
  • “Bulkify this trigger.” No SOQL or DML inside a loop. Collect the IDs into a Set, query once into a Map, then work from the map.
  • “How does an LWC get its data?” Reads use @wire with an Apex method marked @AuraEnabled(cacheable=true), or Lightning Data Service with no Apex at all. Writes use Lightning Data Service first (updateRecord or createRecord from lightning/uiRecordApi, or lightning-record-form), and an imperative Apex call only when you need logic across records. A cacheable=true method cannot do DML, so it can never be your write path. Mention sharing: an Apex class declared with sharing respects the user’s record access. It does not enforce field- or object-level security; for that, query WITH USER_MODE or use Security.stripInaccessible().

If it is the AI side

One commenter wrote, in December 2025, in a Reddit thread about the Agentforce FDE final round, that their last interview for that position “was around AI and Agentforce”, with questions about RAG, vector databases, Agentforce agents and Prompt Builder; they later said they got the job. Source 5Agentforce Forward Deployed Engineer – Final Technical & Behavioral Interview Round? (comment by u/Cold-Information-497)PublisherReddit r/salesforceSource typecandidate report on Reddit

  • RAG. Retrieve the passages relevant to a question from indexed sources, put them in the prompt, and have the model answer from them and cite them. Be ready to say why it still gets things wrong; the question on explaining that to a VP is good practice.
  • Vector databases. They store embeddings and return nearest neighbors. Add keyword search for exact terms such as order numbers, and filter by metadata so a user only retrieves what they may see. Then answer the chunking strategy question.
  • Agentforce agents. Describe an agent as topics (renamed subagents in Agent Script, per the Salesforce CLI release notes) that scope what it handles, with instructions, and actions it can call, such as a Flow, invocable Apex or a prompt template. Keep each action narrow and testable.
  • Prompt Builder. Reusable prompt templates grounded in record data, which a Flow, Apex or an agent can call.

For a full worked design, read the RAG system design interview post.

So prepare three stories:

  • How you use AI tools day to day. Which tool, for which task, and where you stop trusting it. Rehearse with the AI tools question.

  • A prompt that failed. What it did, why, and what you changed: the posting’s own line. Source 1Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) (Mid/Senior Level)PublisherSalesforce (Workday careers site)Source typecompany job posting Here is a short model answer, in our method:

    “Our case-summary prompt invented refund amounts. I found it by running a sample of last month’s closed cases through it and diffing the output against the real record: six had numbers that appeared nowhere in the case. The cause was the instruction to include the resolution, with no rule for cases that had none. I added ‘if the case has no refund field, say no refund was recorded’, passed the refund field in explicitly, and re-ran the same sample: no invented amounts. We kept that sample as a regression set.”

    Symptom, how you measured it, cause, change, re-measure. That order is ours; use it for any “why did this fail” question.

  • An AI project that hit trouble. The challenge, what you tried, and what shipped.

One commenter, the one who got the job, wrote that the behavioral part might cover situations before or during an implementation, such as pushing back on an executive with over-optimistic requirements or timelines. Source 5Agentforce Forward Deployed Engineer – Final Technical & Behavioral Interview Round? (comment by u/Cold-Information-497)PublisherReddit r/salesforceSource typecandidate report on RedditSource 6Agentforce Forward Deployed Engineer – Final Technical & Behavioral Interview Round? (comment by u/Cold-Information-497)PublisherReddit r/salesforceSource typecandidate report on Reddit A good opening line: “I agreed with the goal, showed what the date would cost in risk, and offered a smaller first release we could keep.” Then tell what happened.

Salesforce’s rule on AI in interviews

Salesforce’s company-wide interview tips, from August 2025, say not to use AI tools during the interview itself unless the interviewer prompts it for an exercise, and ask candidates not to record or transcribe interviews. Source 134 Actionable Tips for a Successful Salesforce InterviewPublisherSalesforce Careers BlogSource typecompany blog A May 2026 Salesforce careers post says technical candidates may complete an assessment demonstrating how they use AI. Source 14Ask a Recruiter: How Do I Get AI-Ready Without a Technical Background?PublisherSalesforceSource typecompany blog

In practice: close your assistant before the call, and if an interviewer invites you to use one, narrate what you ask it and how you check the answer. In our method, the narration is the point: it shows you check the tool’s work instead of trusting it.

A preparation plan for both sides of the role

Before your Agentforce FDE interview

  • Read your posting line by line and list its nouns, as the job posting lesson shows.
  • Do one timed HackerRank-style set: a string task, a LEFT JOIN with a count, and an email reply.
  • Answer the four platform prompts above out loud, in under two minutes each.
  • Explain RAG, embeddings, agents and prompt templates to a non-engineer.
  • Prepare the three final-round stories and the executive pushback story.
  • Practice one mock with no AI tools, on camera.
  • Rehearse a customer conversation, as the customer rounds lesson describes.

If you get the job, Salesforce says new FDE hires go through Ready in Six, a six-week onboarding program with technical training, field work and a capstone project. Our bank holds 180 FDE interview questions with model answers, across the coding, AI, customer and hiring-manager rounds. The code and SQL you can cram. The customer email and the executive pushback you can’t, so rehearse them out loud: answer the unrealistic-demands email, then run the free AI practice case, where an AI customer pushes back the way this round does.
