You keep seeing the title on job boards, often at companies you would love to work for, and the description reads half like software engineering and half like consulting. Before you rewrite your resume or spend a weekend on prep, you want to know which half is the job.

Here is the short answer. A forward deployed engineer (FDE) is a software engineer who works inside one customer’s problem, on the customer’s site or alongside its team, and ships production software there: integrations, data pipelines, applications and, at AI companies, agents and evaluations. The customer’s outcome sets the scope, not a product component. Palantir, which says it pioneered the position, calls it the , calls its holders “Deltas”, and sums up their focus as “one customer, many capabilities”. The job in one minute:

The definition, in employers’ words

Every employer words the job a little differently, and the exact line matters when you tailor an answer to one company. These are the definitions employers publish on their postings and blogs:

  • Palantir says Deltas deploy its software platforms to customers, sit in Business Development, and have a mandate to achieve technical outcomes for customers. Source 2Dev versus Delta: Demystifying engineering roles at PalantirPublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blog In a Q&A on Palantir’s 2020 blog, an FDSE named Brian described the role as a software engineer who embeds directly with customers to configure Palantir’s existing platforms to solve their toughest problems. Source 3A Day in the Life of a Palantir Forward Deployed Software EngineerPublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blog
  • OpenAI’s San Francisco FDE posting says the team works with customers to turn research breakthroughs into production systems, and that FDEs own discovery, technical scoping, system design, build and production rollout. Source 11Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) - SFPublisherOpenAI CareersSource typecompany job posting
  • Anthropic’s FDE postings put the role on its Applied AI team, embedded with its most strategic customers to build production applications with Claude, including servers, sub-agents and skills. Source 4Forward Deployed Engineer (New York City, NY; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA)PublisherAnthropic (Greenhouse job board)Source typecompany job posting
  • Google Cloud’s GenAI FDE postings describe an embedded builder who codes, debugs and jointly ships agentic solutions inside the customer’s environment, as opposed to a traditional advisory role. Source 12Forward Deployed Engineer IV, GenAI, Google Cloud — Google CareersPublisherGoogleSource typecompany job posting

Read side by side, the definitions have the same shape: an engineer, placed on one customer’s problem, who builds software that reaches production. None of them stops at advice: each ends in software the engineer builds or deploys.

The FDE meaning, in one answer you can say out loud

A recruiter may open with “What do you think this role is?” A vague answer suggests you have not worked out whether the job is to build or to advise. Here is a version built from the definitions above. Change the middle sentence to a line from the posting in front of you:

“An FDE is a software engineer whose scope is one customer’s problem rather than one part of the product. Your posting says the FDE owns everything from discovery to production rollout, so I read that as: I scope it, I build it in their environment, and I’m the person they call when the rollout breaks. It’s judged on whether the customer’s work actually changes, and what I learn in the field goes back to the product team.”

What the job is not

Kevin Bai, of Anthropic’s applied AI team, gave the shortest version at the same AI Engineer World’s Fair 2026, speaking generally rather than about Anthropic’s hiring: someone you would hire as a software engineer and would also trust in front of a customer. Two kinds of FDE job

The title covers two kinds of employer, and the deliverable differs between them:

EmployerWhat the FDE builds

The line is not always clean. Databricks posts both a Sr. Forward Deployed Engineer role, whose FDEs are billable, and an AI FDE role on a customer-facing AI team. Source 7AI Engineer – Forward Deployed Engineering (AI FDE)PublisherDatabricks (careers site / Greenhouse)Source typecompany job postingSource 17Sr. Forward Deployed EngineerPublisherDatabricks (Greenhouse-hosted careers page)Source typecompany job posting Both are FDE jobs, and both are covered here. The two illustrative weeks further down show one week of each kind, and the section on AI forward deployed engineers goes deeper on the AI kind.

Within either kind, the fastest way to tell what you would build is to read the verbs next to the product name. “Deploy”, “configure” or “implement” point to platform work; “bespoke”, “custom” or “in the customer’s environment” point to a build. The lesson What forward deployed engineers do turns that into a test you can run on any posting. Then read the skills list, because some enterprise postings get specific about backend work: MongoDB’s Industry Solutions FDE postings ask for experience migrating production workloads with dual-write or change data capture (CDC) patterns. If you would rather learn all of this as a course, Module 0, The FDE role, decoded covers the same ground. The whole module is free.

Where the role came from

The role as employers use it today traces to Palantir, which says it pioneered the position. Source 1Palantir Technologies - Forward Deployed Software Engineer (New York, NY)PublisherPalantir (Lever job board)Source typecompany job posting Palantir’s blog said in April 2019 that Software Engineers and Forward Deployed Software Engineers were its biggest engineering roles by headcount, called “Devs” and “Deltas” internally. Source 2Dev versus Delta: Demystifying engineering roles at PalantirPublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blog It draws the difference in two phrases: a Dev’s focus is “one capability, many customers”, and a Delta’s is “one customer, many capabilities”. Source 2Dev versus Delta: Demystifying engineering roles at PalantirPublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blogSource 3A Day in the Life of a Palantir Forward Deployed Software EngineerPublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blog

Dev: one capability, used by three customers.Dev: one capability, many customerscapabilitycustomercustomercustomerDelta: one customer, served across three capabilities.Delta: one customer, many capabilitiescapabilitycapabilitycapabilitycustomer
A product engineer owns a component that every customer uses. A forward deployed engineer owns whatever one customer needs, across components.

That pair of phrases is the most useful thing in this guide to remember. In our reading, it means your week is set by the customer’s problem: a data integration, a permissions fix and a platform bug can all be yours at once, and nobody hands you a ticket that says which one matters most.

Palantir Delta, and Echo

The name “Delta” comes from Palantir’s early days, when each Business Development team was named after a letter of the NATO alphabet. Source 2Dev versus Delta: Demystifying engineering roles at PalantirPublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blog A Palantir blog post from October 2025 says forward deployed engineers were originally called “Echos” and “Deltas”, roughly the engineers better at talking to humans and the engineers better at talking to machines. Source 19Beyond Founder Mode: Mission Mode (Palantir Blog)PublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blog The labels survive: as of September 2026, Palantir’s New York posting is filed under the team label “Echo” and its FDSE posting under “Delta”. Source 6Palantir Technologies - Deployment Strategist (New York, NY)PublisherPalantir (Lever job board)Source typecompany job posting So “Palantir Delta” means the FDSE, and the Echo label now sits on the Deployment Strategist, the FDE’s non-engineering partner. The term is older than the recent wave of postings: a Science news article from July 2009 called two Palantir staff “forward-deployed engineers”, the earliest dated use we found. How it spread

The short version: the largest AI and cloud companies have started building whole FDE organizations. It began with small teams. The Pragmatic Engineer reported, in August 2025, that Colin Jarvis proposed OpenAI’s FDE team at the start of that year, that it began with two FDEs, and that it had grown to more than 10. Source 13What are Forward Deployed Engineers, and why are they so in demand? (Gergely Orosz)PublisherThe Pragmatic EngineerSource typenews report In a November 2025 Altimeter Capital interview, Jarvis said the team was then at 39 people. Then the largest companies built whole organizations around the model:

CNBC also reported, in June 2026, that Palantir coined the term more than a decade ago and that software vendors have revived it. Source 26AWS puts $1 billion into new AI unit to embed engineers with customers, joining growing wavePublisherCNBCSource typenews report The lesson Why the role spread when it did walks through the reasons in more depth.

What this means for your search: add these new units to your list, and search by duties as well as title. The Anthropic venture shows why: its announcement says “Applied AI engineers”, so a search for the FDE title alone would miss it. What a week looks like

No employer publishes a measured typical FDE week. What exists are individual accounts, and they agree on one thing: the mix changes with the phase of the project.

  • Dyon, a Delta in Abu Dhabi quoted on Palantir’s 2019 blog, said most weeks included a couple of days at the customer’s premises, split between stakeholder meetings and monitoring, debugging, deploying or configuring the software. Source 2Dev versus Delta: Demystifying engineering roles at PalantirPublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blog G.M., a Delta in São Paulo, said some weeks went mostly to developing and reviewing code and others mostly to scoping with a client or working with users. Source 2Dev versus Delta: Demystifying engineering roles at PalantirPublisherPalantir BlogSource typecompany blog
  • Het Trivedi, a Baseten FDE, wrote on the company blog that over time his work split roughly 75% software engineering and model optimization, 15% technical consulting and solution design, and 10% customer relationship management. Source 28What I learned as a forward-deployed engineer working at an AI startupPublisherBasetenSource typecompany blog
  • According to OpenAI’s Head of FDE, as reported by The Pragmatic Engineer, OpenAI’s customer projects run in three phases: early scoping with a couple of days on site, validation against agreed criteria including evals, and delivery on site a few days a week. Source 13What are Forward Deployed Engineers, and why are they so in demand? (Gergely Orosz)PublisherThe Pragmatic EngineerSource typenews report
  • The Engineering Leadership newsletter reported, in August 2026, that OpenAI generally tells new FDE joiners to expect around 50% of their time on customer sites, and that Jarvis said this varies by project, with some people in the UAE and Japan on site around 80% of the time. Source 29Inside OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineer RolePublisherEngineering Leadership (Gregor Ojstersek)Source typenews report

Jarvis also told The Pragmatic Engineer, in August 2025, that what customers describe in scoping often does not match the data and system reality, so his team biases toward moving fast and re-scoping to the most useful thing it can do. Source 13What are Forward Deployed Engineers, and why are they so in demand? (Gergely Orosz)PublisherThe Pragmatic EngineerSource typenews report That sentence explains more about the job than any time split.

An illustrative week, AI version

This is our composite, invented to show the rhythm. It is not a measured week. Picture an FDE placed with a regional insurer that wants an assistant to route incoming claims:

  • Monday, on site. The head of claims says every claim arrives by email. You sit with the adjusters and learn that the urgent claims arrive through a broker portal nobody mentioned.
  • Tuesday. You ask for read access to the portal’s database. IT says it needs a security review. You write the one-page request that afternoon, naming exactly which tables you need and why.
  • Wednesday. While you wait, you ship the email path end to end to a handful of adjusters: ingestion, a routing model, and a button that says “wrong queue”. It is thin, but it runs on their data.
  • Thursday. The “wrong queue” clicks show the router sending burst-pipe claims to the flood queue and storm-drain claims to escape of water, because both say “water”. You add those claims to your evaluation set, change the prompt, and replay last week’s real claims to check that the misroutes drop and nothing else breaks.
  • Friday, remote. You write the weekly update for the customer’s sponsor, and a separate note to your product team: the platform has no connector for this broker portal, and the next insurer will need one too.

Discovery, build, evaluation, stakeholder writing and product feedback all happened in one week, not in sequence. The question What would your first month look like? makes you plan that loop out loud: its framework is free, and its model answer is in Pro. In Pro, the lesson on the walking skeleton turns the thin first version into a method.

The same week, enterprise version

Another composite, for the other kind of FDE job. Picture an FDE placed with a manufacturer whose maintenance planners want one screen of overdue work orders per plant:

  • Monday, on site. The planners say the ERP has everything. You ask each of them to show you how they find overdue work today, and learn that the Derby planner keeps a spreadsheet of her own.
  • Tuesday. You pull the work orders and the asset register into the platform and join them, and the Derby plant’s work orders all vanish from the join.

Here is the check that catches it. Before you trust a join, count what did not match, per source:

-- How many work orders per plant found no asset?
SELECT w.plant,
       COUNT(*) AS work_orders,
SUM(CASE WHEN a.asset_id IS NULL THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS unmatched
FROM work_orders w
LEFT JOIN assets a ON CAST(a.asset_id AS TEXT) = w.asset_ref
GROUP BY w.plant;
plant work_orders unmatched
Derby 3 3
Leeds 2 0

Every Derby row is unmatched and every Leeds row matches, so the problem is how Derby writes the key, not missing assets. Leeds writes an asset reference as 42; Derby writes it as P02-00042. Strip the prefix and compare numbers:

-- SQLite. In Postgres 14 or later: CAST(split_part(w.asset_ref, '-', -1) AS INTEGER)
LEFT JOIN assets a
  ON a.asset_id = CAST(SUBSTR(w.asset_ref, INSTR(w.asset_ref, '-') + 1) AS INTEGER)

Rerun the count and Derby drops to zero unmatched.

  • Wednesday. You ask the Derby planner why the references look different, and learn that the prefix is Derby’s plant code, added because Derby’s system was set up separately, and that the number after it is the same company-wide asset number Leeds uses. You write that down as a rule the pipeline enforces, not a one-off fix.
  • Thursday. The screen ships to the Leeds and Derby planners, and you watch which columns they sort by.
  • Friday, remote. A note to your product team: the connector should normalize plant-prefixed keys, because the next manufacturer will have them too.

This is the enterprise row of the table above, the one with Palantir, Databricks and MongoDB in it: one customer’s data, integrated on the employer’s platform, with an application on top. The sentence to say when an interviewer asks how you know a pipeline is right: “Before I show anyone a number, I count what failed to join, split by source, because a silent join failure looks exactly like a quiet week.” To practice this side of the job, fix a join whose fan-out inflates revenue and design a platform that unifies a retailer’s data sources. Both are free, model answers included.

How success is measured

Employers state what they measure, and none of them names a product metric like velocity or story points:

OpenAI’s Colin Jarvis said on a South Park Commons panel, in May 2026, that the relentless pursuit of value is what makes a good forward deployed engineer. Source 34The Future of Forward Deployed Engineering | OpenAI, Ramp, Nominal, DatalandPublisherSouth Park Commons (YouTube)Source typerecorded talk or interview He named the matching failure too: people who come to love the form of what they built more than its function, where the best FDEs will tear a solution up and build something different when users do not use it. Source 34The Future of Forward Deployed Engineering | OpenAI, Ramp, Nominal, DatalandPublisherSouth Park Commons (YouTube)Source typerecorded talk or interview

Quota, and where FDEs sit relative to sales

In Bloomberry’s analysis of 1,000 FDE job postings, 0% were quota-carrying roles and 8% mentioned . Source 35What I learned analyzing 1K forward deployed engineer jobsPublisherBloomberrySource typeindependent analysis The setups still differ. Okta posts its Principal FDE pay as an OTE range that includes incentive compensation. Source 36Principal Forward Deployed Engineer - Okta for AI AgentsPublisherOkta (Greenhouse)Source typecompany job posting Baseten states that FDE at Baseten is not a sales function. Source 37Engineering Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering (LLM) @ BasetenPublisherBaseten (Ashby)Source typecompany job posting Jarvis said on the same May 2026 panel that OpenAI’s FDE unit is a business unit separate from solutions engineering (pre-sales) and solutions architecture (post-sales), that it works only about 10 engagements at a time, and that it has to say no more often than yes. Source 34The Future of Forward Deployed Engineering | OpenAI, Ramp, Nominal, DatalandPublisherSouth Park Commons (YouTube)Source typerecorded talk or interview Read that as a hint about the job: at OpenAI, at least, the FDE team chooses its engagements, so it helps to show in an interview that you can tell a problem worth an engineer’s months from one the product or a partner should handle.

What this changes in your interview answers

End your stories on the customer’s outcome, not on the fact that you shipped. Compare:

  • Weak: “I built a document-extraction pipeline for a logistics customer.”
  • Strong: “I built the extraction pipeline, the customer’s billing team stopped keying invoices by hand, and the one field it kept missing became a feature request our product team shipped for everyone.”

The second answer maps onto what OpenAI says it measures: adoption, workflow impact and feedback that changes the roadmap. Source 11Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) - SFPublisherOpenAI CareersSource typecompany job posting

The other pattern to show is re-scoping. Jarvis described it to The Pragmatic Engineer and on the South Park Commons panel: re-scope when what the customer described does not match the data, and tear up a solution that users do not use. Source 13What are Forward Deployed Engineers, and why are they so in demand? (Gergely Orosz)PublisherThe Pragmatic EngineerSource typenews reportSource 34The Future of Forward Deployed Engineering | OpenAI, Ramp, Nominal, DatalandPublisherSouth Park Commons (YouTube)Source typerecorded talk or interview Show that you did both:

  • Weak: “The spec asked for a dashboard, so I built the dashboard.”
  • Strong: “By the third day the data showed the dashboard’s numbers could not be trusted. I told the sponsor that afternoon, re-scoped to the weekly report the planners already used, and when they ignored my first cut of it, I rebuilt it around the column they actually read.”

Practice the outcome ending on a project you owned end to end and re-scoping on a decision you got wrong and reversed. Both are free, model answers included. In Pro, go on to the customer outcome you are proudest of and leaving a customer able to run what you built.

AI forward deployed engineers

An AI forward deployed engineer is an FDE whose deliverable runs on large language models: agents, retrieval systems, evaluations and tool integrations, built inside a customer’s systems. Some employers put “AI” in the title; others put it only in the job description. Here is what the AI labs and data platforms post:

What is different about the AI version

Three things stand out in these postings, in our reading:

  1. Evaluation is part of the deliverable. OpenAI measures FDEs partly on eval-driven feedback. Source 11Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) - SFPublisherOpenAI CareersSource typecompany job posting A Cohere FDE wrote that its FDEs help customers build test suites so internal teams can check the system still behaves as expected when model versions, integrations and configurations change. Source 42FDEs: Building Capacity, Not DependencyPublisherCohereSource typecompany blog
  2. The FDE can reach into the product. The same Cohere post says that when a customer needs something the product does not fully support, Cohere FDEs can inspect or modify the underlying code and work with core engineering on a fix that generalizes across customers. Source 42FDEs: Building Capacity, Not DependencyPublisherCohereSource typecompany blog
  3. The field feeds the research. OpenAI says its FDEs give customer teams a direct connection to OpenAI Research. Source 39Introducing OpenAI Frontier | OpenAIPublisherOpenAISource typecompany blog

The first point is the one to be able to show in code. Here is Thursday of the insurer week as a replay check: last week’s claims, each with the label the adjuster confirmed and the label the router chose, and a count of which labels get confused with which.

from collections import Counter

# Last week's claims: (text, label the adjuster confirmed, label the router chose)
replay = [
("Burst pipe under the kitchen sink", "escape_of_water", "flood"),
("River came over the bank into the ground floor", "flood", "flood"),
("Storm drain backed up into the garage", "flood", "escape_of_water"),
("Washing machine hose split overnight", "escape_of_water", "escape_of_water"),
("Hail cracked roof tiles", "storm", "storm"),
("Radiator valve leaking through the ceiling", "escape_of_water", "flood"),
]

right = sum(want == got for _, want, got in replay)
print(f"routed correctly: {right}/{len(replay)}")
confusions = Counter((want, got) for _, want, got in replay if want != got)
for (want, got), n in confusions.most_common():
    print(f" {want} sent to {got}: {n}")
routed correctly: 3/6
  escape_of_water sent to flood: 2
  flood sent to escape_of_water: 1

The confusion count tells you which way the router is wrong, which an accuracy figure alone hides. Keep the replay set, rerun it after every prompt or model change, and add each new “wrong queue” click to it. The sentence to say to the customer’s sponsor, or to an interviewer: “Before I ship a prompt change, I rerun last week’s real claims against it, so I can show you the fix did not break flood routing.”

What to be ready to show for an AI FDE role

  • An agent or retrieval system you built that real users touched, and what broke first
  • How you measured quality: a , a , or an LLM judge you checked against people
  • A time you explained a model’s limits to someone non-technical
  • How you handled latency, cost or a risk in production

If any line is thin, work through designing an evaluation harness for a support agent and explaining why an assistant cannot be right every time.

The titles employers use

The job hides under many titles, so a search for one of them misses much of the market. The pattern to listen for in the table below: most of its titles contain “deployed” or “deployment”, Sierra’s names the agent instead, and Deployment Strategist is the FDE’s non-engineering partner, not an engineering title. These are the titles you will meet in current postings:

Growth figures are everywhere, and they are hard to compare. Bloomberry found that postings titled “forward deployed engineer” from January through October 2025 were up 1,165% on the same months of 2024. Source 35What I learned analyzing 1K forward deployed engineer jobsPublisherBloomberrySource typeindependent analysis Other sources measure other windows, on other job boards, sometimes as index values rather than counts, so do not set one beside another.

Small companies matter too: in Bloomberry’s analysis of 1,000 FDE postings, 58% of FDE roles were at companies with 11 to 200 employees. Source 35What I learned analyzing 1K forward deployed engineer jobsPublisherBloomberrySource typeindependent analysis

What this means for your search: the counts tell you where to look, not what your odds are. Start with the employers that post the most, then add the smaller companies, which a search of the best-known names will miss.

Travel

Travel varies widely, between employers and inside one employer. Here is the range the postings state, from occasional visits to most of the year:

Across the market, in our September 2026 count of public postings, 512 of 806 matching postings mentioned travel and 388 stated a percentage; of those 388, the highest stated figure was 1-25% in 204 and 26-50% in 141. Source 54Our analysis: FDE posting censusPublisherfdeinterviewprep.com researchSource typeour analysis of public data

“Remote” does not mean no travel. In our September 2026 count of public postings, 138 of 806 were remote-eligible, and hybrid was not counted as remote. What the travel feels like is harder to pin down. As reported by The Wall Street Journal in March 2026, Hex founder Barry McCardel, a Palantir FDE for about five years, described the job as a lot of time on planes and in three-star hotels. Source 69The Hottest Job in Tech Isn’t Very Glamorous (WSJ, republished)PublisherThe Wall Street Journal via IT Executives CouncilSource typenews report LeadDev quoted, in July 2026, Piotr Kraus, an ex-Palantir FDE who now consults for an FDE advisory firm, as saying that constant travel makes the role susceptible to burnout earlier than other roles. Source 70The rise of the forward-deployed engineer (FDE)PublisherLeadDevSource typenews report No one publishes attrition data for FDEs.

Public-sector roles add a clearance line. Palantir’s US Government FDSE posting in Washington, D.C. requires an active clearance at or above Top Secret, or willingness to obtain one. Decide your limit before the recruiter asks. The question This role involves travel. What can you commit to? gives you the words, and the lesson Travel, location and on-site time shows how to read the travel line.

Pay

FDE pay is posted in different forms, so check which form you are reading before you compare two roles. Here are three anchors, each with what its figure covers:

  • OpenAI FDE, San Francisco: as of September 2026, a salary range of $185K–$300K, and the posting says total compensation also includes equity and performance-related bonuses for eligible employees. Source 11Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) - SFPublisherOpenAI CareersSource typecompany job posting
  • Salesforce FDE, US: as of September 2026, a typical base salary range of $88,970–$287,910 a year, base salary only, with a higher range in California, New York and select metro areas. Government filings give a wider view. In H-1B filings certified from October 2025 to June 2026, the median offered base wage across 317 filings with “forward deployed” in the job title was $161,637. FDE vs nearby roles

The FDE sits between product engineering, pre-sales and delivery, and titles overlap. The point in one sentence, in our reading: the FDE is the only one of these roles that writes production code in the customer’s environment and also feeds what it learns back into the product. This is the short version:

RoleHow it differs from an FDE
Software engineerOwns “one capability, many customers”; the FDE owns “one customer, many capabilities”. Each comparison has its own guide: FDE vs software engineer, FDE vs solutions architect and FDE vs sales engineer. The lesson telling the four roles apart covers all of them in one place, and FDE vs AI engineer takes the newest overlap: both roles build with LLMs, but they serve different users.

How to get hired

The interview has its own guide: the forward deployed engineer interview, round by round. Here is what employers say they screen for, and a plan to prepare.

What employers say they look for

The pattern is what we call the double bar: pass as an engineer, and be someone a customer trusts. Neither half substitutes for the other. In Pro, the lesson on the double bar shows how to prepare for both halves at once.

A plan to prepare

This is our method, not a description of how any employer scores you:

  1. Read three postings you would apply to, line by line. Note the title, where the code runs, the travel line and how pay is stated. The lesson on reading a job posting gives you the checklist.
  2. Write your “why FDE” answer. Tie your past work to the customer side of the job. Start with Why forward deployed engineering, and not a software engineering role? and the lesson on the bridge story.
  3. Learn the open-ended round. Palantir, for one, publishes a guide to navigating open-ended questions among its interview competencies. Source 83Getting Hired - Palantir CareersPublisherPalantir TechnologiesSource typecompany hiring page The decomposition interview guide and the lesson the open-ended round and the method on one page teach the method.
  4. Run a case against a simulated customer. The practice case puts you in front of an AI customer with facts it reveals only when you ask the right questions. It is free once you sign in.
  5. Drill the rest. The question bank holds 180 questions with model answers; the last section of this guide says which parts are free and what Pro adds.

What this guide cannot do, and what Pro adds

This guide tells you what the job is. It cannot tell you whether your answers would hold up in the loop.

Start with What forward deployed engineers do, the first lesson of Module 0, The FDE role, decoded, and do the one task it ends with today. The whole module is free, and each lesson ends with one thing to do that day. When you can explain the job out loud, test it on the free practice case, where an AI customer reveals facts only when you ask the right questions.

Every one of the 180 practice questions shows its framework free, and some show their model answer free too. Pro adds the method lessons this guide pointed to, including the walking skeleton and the double bar, the model answers across the whole question bank, and all 3 practice cases against a simulated customer. It starts with a 7-day free trial. See what Pro includes.
